It is known as the Barber Pole knot. It is made by interweaving two Matthew Walker knots. I'll see if can dig up a few things.

Ok... there is not as much as I seem to remember on Barber Pole knots. At any rate, they are easy enough to make with the AGM. For example here is the runlist for a 10p 8b Barber Pole:

Robert, it's the one item my toolkit is missing - a decent pair of micro-tip scissors. I'm currently using a sharp knife but the risk of nicking bits you don't want to is an issue. This is the second time it's happened in two whips. I did it on Cappuccino and had to remake the heel knot (if I remember right)!

I suspect Santa will be bringing me something from the Fiskars catalogue this year!

Roger, that's a shame, good luck with your new knot! I don't know if it'd help, but I actually use a razor to cut the strands, which is slightly harder than scissors, but I find you need to pull the strand to tension before cutting, so it's harder to cut something you don't want cut

All done, waxed and ready for shipping. Shame the wax brought out a little discolouration in the Goldenrod but all in all, this is a good whip. Particularly after the wax, it rolls out very smoothly and cracks loud!
